Opalescence Teeth Whitening

The Process of Opalescence Teeth Whitening

There are currently many teeth whitening treatments available in the American marketplace; some are better than others, but most of them are good. So … if your teeth are discolored or not as white as you would like them to be, how do you determine the best teeth-whitening process for you?

The process of opalescence teeth whitening is often thought to be one of the best teeth whitening treatments available. It generally takes place in a dentist’s chair while you are a patient in your dentist’s office. It can also be done by you, without professional assistance, in your own home. However, most people who opt for this treatment choose to have it done by a dentist.

Now, it should be noted that there are many other fine treatments available. But, opalescence teeth whitening, which uses hydrogen peroxide for its chemical reaction, is minimally invasive and much easier on you, the patient, than other popular treatments like crowns or veneers.

The process begins when you are seated in your dentist’s chair. He or she starts by cleaning your teeth thoroughly. Then, your dentist provides protection from the upcoming treatment for your gums and lips. Now, he or she must figure out how discolored your teeth are. It will determine just how the opalescence treatment is administered to you. Normally, the entire treatment takes from one to two hours and begins with the application of a “sticky gel” to the front of your teeth.

Once applied, the gel remains in place for about ten to fifteen minutes. After that time has elapsed, your dentist will remove the gel and have you rinse your mouth to make sure any remaining residue is cleaned out, as well. Next, after you’ve had a few minutes to rest, your dentist will repeat the process, once again applying the sticky gel to your teeth for about fifteen minutes.

This process will take place another two or three times – up to five times total – depending on how discolored and in need of whitening your teeth actually are … and then the applications and the treatment will be over.

While it is not a painful treatment, it can be uncomfortable because you will be required to sit for up to two hours with a sticky gel enveloping your teeth … nothing pleasant at all. But, it is the results that make this discomfort worth your trouble. If this opalescence teeth whitening process, which normally costs about $500, can whiten your teeth by several shades – and dramatically brighten your smile – the money you spend can be considered a worthwhile investment.

Of course, opalescence teeth whitening gels are available in retail stores like pharmacies and supermarkets. They are relatively inexpensive to purchase and can give you the same results when you self-apply at home as you are likely to get in your dentist’s office. However, it is probably easier to let your dentist do the work for you if you are able to afford the extra cost. He or she has probably done this procedure many times, successfully, and for you, it will be a new experience; one that can easily backfire.
